When doing long term imagery, you need to ask yourself the following: What is your vision? Where do you want to go? Why do you do what you do? Once you have determined that, then engineer it. Align your goals with your vision, with who you are as a person. Finally, why not tell yourself about it? Use imagery to see your vision and your goals. Otherwise, "if you can't see where you're going, you'll end up somewhere else."
The sum total of this process is: Vision + Goal-Setting + Imagery = Commitment + Direction + Energy.
Too many performers start with goal-setting but their goals may be totally out of line with who they are as people. Very few people are motivated by other people's goals. Commitment and ownership only come from being involved in your vision-building and goal-setting process.
Finally, see your direction and progress. Your body does not speak English,
French, Spanish or any other language. It speaks in images. It is essential that
you translate your vision and goals into a language that your body can understand - -
imagery.
