Step 5: Re-Think Priorities


Yes, illness does give you cause to re-think priorities. What relationships do you need to clear up? Who do you have unfinished business with? Finish it! Express the love and the resentment. Give yourself permission to forgive yourself for whatever you feel you are guilty of. Let go of it. If you had one more day to live, what would you want or need to do?

What enjoyable activities have you postponed because you "never had the time?" Make yourself a Love List, a list of things you like to do and people you like to be with. These activities don't have to be fancy. Here are some examples:

1. Keep fresh flowers in the house.

2. Buy new strings for the guitar.

3. Walk on the beach.

4. Rent comedy videos.

5. Eat dinner by candlelight.
